Based in New York City, I am a student at Parsons School of Design, majoring in integrated design. In choosing this major, I hope to develop a well-rounded understanding of my artistic style in varying media. I find myself most comfortable in video and photo production, as well as charcoal illustration. The ability to execute a project to my desired vision is a feeling I find myself chasing in all of my projects.

WAKE ME UP IN A WEEK

A Short Film By Gavin MacGregor

An exploration of time and a physical manifestation of peace.

Two people standing outdoors at night among city buildings, with one person holding a red light and the other taking a photograph with a camera on a tripod, illuminated by red and ambient city lights.

Drawn from a personal period of emotional unrest, Wake Me Up In A Week explores the disorienting and suffocating nature of anxiety through abstract storytelling and symbolic imagery. Water functions as a recurring motif throughout the film, representing both tranquility and emotional overwhelm. Artificial and unnatural water sources mirror the anxiety of city life, while natural landscapes and sounds reflect moments of peace, memory, and dissociation. Rooted in my experience of moving from an island environment surrounded by nature to New York City, the film speaks to the loss of open space and the search for new forms of escape and grounding. Through the use of color theory, projection, and surreal visual language, the film captures the emotional contrast between confinement and release.
